NJ Ombudsman Visits Friends Village


James W. McCracken, (left to right), Keisha Saffron and Amy Brown, from the NJ Office of the Ombudsman for the Institutionalized Elderly, presented a program outlining the variety of Advanced Care planning documents and the importance of individuals having an Advanced Care Directive. Advanced Directives state what kinds of healthcare treatment people do or do not want to receive should they become incapacitated. Tom Lyons (right), Executive Director of Friends Village at Woodstown, hosted the presentation for Friends Village residents and neighbors.
New medical student visits campus

“Bruce is the fifth medical student over the past six months to spend time with us as part of his Community Medicine Service rotation,” said Tom Lyons, Friends Village Executive Director.“We hope we provided a new perspective on how we care for older adults.”
Weng stated that he really enjoyed getting to know the residents at Friends Village and talking with them about their lives.“It was like opening a book,” he said.
The students are able to interact with residents during health assessments, rehabilitation sessions and during rounds with the medical staff at the facility.They were introduced to the dietary needs of older adults, hospice care and Medicare guidelines.
Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) are federally funded and have been serving communities throughout the United States for 30 years.Garden AHEC serves Salem, Cumberland and Gloucester counties.
Volunteers Make the Difference!
The Sing-Along group, which has been bringing music to Friends Village residents for more than 20 years, was recognized for its volunteerism during the 15th Annual Salem County Community Spirit Awards. Thank you for all you do for our residents!
